the flower of evil.

December 25, 2007

Omg, I can never stop listening to Brightman’s fleur du mal (the flower of evil) and the other new songs! Quick January, quick come!

Now, hear gothic meets rock meets opera:

I have never enjoyed watching Taiwanese drama serials because they’re so boring (and draggy). I could never understand how my friend can spend up to hundreds of dollars on those boxes displayed in video shops…

Until I watched the popular hit serial 恶作剧之吻 I borrowed from my friend.

The past few days I’ve been eating so little, sleeping so little, because I was so eager and excited to finish watching all 20 episodes at one go. Of course I couldn’t, it took me 3 days, but most of the time I stay glued to my comp. Ever since I finished the 1st disc, I got hooked on. I wanted so badly, despite the time 3 am, to put on the second one to find out what happens next. And then the third one, fourth one… and so on.

And so my friends, you know now why I wake up at 12 or 1 pm these days.

Actually I don’t really know how and why I have become so attracted to this show. It’s not as if I have never watched Taiwanese shows on TV. But that this is a show that I have truly enjoyed watching for the first time. When my friend recommended me 恶作剧之吻, I was still hesitating.. the shows that I watched on TV.. I never found them appealing. Another friend tells me Taiwanese drama scenes are so draggy. Nevertheless, I accepted his kind offer.

From that day onwards, my perspective changed.

The fact that I screened it on my comp directly in front of me allowed me to concentrate and follow the story better. But it also meant that I would likely become so engrossed in its story plot and be emotional. True enough, I was. I was surprised at the unexpected scenes that were to follow. I laughed at the stupidity played by the actors. I teared during scenes that were so moving. And I mean literally dropped tears. I know this is ridiculous, but so absorbed I was into the show that whatever I do, wherever I go (outside or around my house), I keep thinking about the show. Even when I’m outside, I would be so excited to rush home to continue on the episodes. At night, I would even dream of myself in its story plot. I think it’s because of the story that I became so obsessed and attached to. I can relate to things happening in the show. And don’t beat me, but I think even the best local dramas cannot hold a candle to some Taiwanese serials, at least in the same category.

And what I like about the show and I think most deserved to be mentioned and honoured is how the actors and actresses add in impromptus into the show. I know it because I watched the show three times! And then I tried to find the script online, there were obviously some parts of the show that weren’t following the script! Now.. as for local dramas… I don’t remember capturing any…

Now, the sequel 恶作剧2吻 is showing in Taiwan and hopefully by May when I’ll be having my holidays, the VCD is out for purchase! In the meantime, the first two episodes of the sequel have been uploaded on youtube.

Merry Christmas!

not happy with my food.

December 17, 2007

Since when did LJS scrimp on their fries? I can actually COUNT them.  -_-.
No..no.. I swear I haven’t touched any ok!

10 pathetic fries, a reasonable portion of coleslaw, 2 miserably-sized chicken pieces and 1 fish piece for $7.40.
Had I known, I would have gone for Mac’s.

Chilli packets were sticky.
My fork was dirty when I got it.
Unlike the usual times when I get my food almost immediately, I had to wait for 5 minutes. So much for ‘fast’ food.
One guy swept the floor directly in front of me when I’m eating. How nice.

This time round, I shall be nice. The next time the same thing happens again, ho ho ho…
And don’t let me catch anyone skiving and chit-chatting so openly.

scholar-to-be?

December 15, 2007

Still contemplating on whether I should sign up for USP.

Even though Prof encouraged the several few of us, and that this is an honoured invitation to those ’supposedly suitable’ for USP, I am still apprehensive and unsure of myself.

True, after the briefing last week, I did have an inclination to sign up. I was almost interested. Since the USP system has new developments the student can take advantage of, so why not? I mean I trust Prof and the 2 seniors when they told us about the benefits and such. I felt.. should I say, assured and honoured at the same time? Previously, scholars are required to take up extra modules and work out extended essays; now, the extra demands for essays remain, but there will be no extra modules to take! This means I will be taking an equal number of modules as my fellow mates! It’s true it may be good to take advantage of the education and learn more stuff but.. aki workload is extremely heavy already!

I am unsure of myself also. I can be confident in reading and speaking well, but fear the most when it comes to writing. If this may be accurate, scholars are required to write many, many essays most of the time- essays that have this ‘think and write critically’ attachment. Also, I am one of those who constantly seeks perfection and will therefore, always edit and review where necessary, parts of my work to produce the best result, and this means, for me to produce a good piece of work, I need a lot, a lot of time. And in aki, time is of the crucial essence.

Actually, I might just be determined to shallenge myself. I just hope there will not be any consequences if I choose to opt out of the programme later.

To sign up for USP, I have to write an essay. See what I mean? Essays here essays there. Total spoilage.

So should I sign up? Hmmm…

i’m having a great time!!!

December 10, 2007

Whee I’m having a greeeat time! It’s just so wonderful having so much fun in the holidays! Haha. January school, don’t come… nooooo….

Anyway, yesterday was my first attempt at tennis! I must say I’m not bad wor lol. I even think I was betta than Rob, whom I’ve heard has been playing tennis for years now and still suck lol; although there were 2 times the ball went over the fence and landed into the basement carpark >.< But tennis is reeeally spoilt >.< It is so tiring!!!! I woke up this morning and had aches all over. I could hardly stand properly and raise my right arm. Any my hip area and buttocks… were so spoilt!

After tennis I headed down to archifest exhibition at city hall which I had sooo wanted to go down on wed or thurs. But the terrible weather had me stayed indoors for the 3 or 4 days of continuous rain. Even the big umbrella I had couldn’t beat my laziness lol. So anyway, there were many good panels featured at the exhibition including my studio’s with my spastic pouty photo with it. Qungen enjoyed the tour too! And thanks Gracia for the lovely present! You’re the sweetest! The doggy can be used as studio pillow lol.

Then I met up with Desmond, Ah Tim, together with Qungen. Great food at Miss Clarity Cafe and TCC. The meet up was heartwarming and all of us talked from 4 till 11 pm lol. I would so love to have more of such gatherings next time! Qungen and Desmond, all the best for your interviews. If you guys are really passionate about something, it’s already half a success! And Tim, sometimes I would be thinking how you manage your time…. with your studies at hand, your hospital work, and now you have to organize an event for 100 people… it’s just so spoilt, isn’t it?

And today was Robin’s House Day and we had arranged to have a simple home-cooked dinner, with the help of his part-time domestic helper, Sharon. The 5 of us had spaghetti, wild mushroom campbell (never heard of this flavour before today!), chicken wings fried the Filipino way (damn nice lah!), fries, doughnuts and ice-cream!

Omg I feel so fat now.

Anyway I was watching Mediacorp’s 25th anniversary of dramas awards show earlier on and was blown away and so greatly moved by veteran Chen Mei Guang. She’s 88 and when she sang that ‘yi duo hua’ high note on TV just now… I tell you, it was reaaaaaally out of this world! That note! That LA ying! I wonder if I can pull that off at 88 lol. I salute her and I wish her the best of health.

Some of the pictures will be on FB.

P/S: Cover of Brightman’s new studio album is out!

15/12 Update:
The second one is the final album cover I believe.

wet, wet, wet

December 6, 2007

The past two days have been raining. I think it’ll be another 2 to 3 days later before the sky clears up.

Anyway, I had thought of going down to the Singapore Design Festival today, but GV isn’t free last minute and I didn’t want to go alone, so maybe I’ll go tomorrow! And hopefully the weather is fine.

P/S: I killed two flies in my bathroom after they had intercourse. I could have video-ed the entire process. Shit.

sb’s symphony

December 5, 2007

These days I’m logging on to Sarah’s website more frequently to check out news on her upcoming album, Symphony. I’ve been waiting for 5 years! Ever since Harem was released in 2003, I have no new Sarah songs to listen and sing! So bored! Anyway, I’ve heard 4 songs from the new album and they’re so beautiful and amazing. I think this time round, it’ll be more ballady with more pop and rock tunes, less of classical stuff, with a tinge of gothic metal.. Hmm.. I’m still figuring out how all of this fits together. Classical pop with gothic metal? And symphony? O.o Who cares!

Anyway, here’s a new duet Sarah sang with Bocelli called Canto Della Terra (which will be included in Symphony). Their first duet Time to Say Goodbye was a global hit with over 3 million copies sold.

hello

December 5, 2007

Oooh.. journalist theme! I like it! It’s simple, free of jarring colours and has nice fonts and neat edges. This is what I’ve been waiting for! ‘Cos quite frankly, I find the other templates disgusting. I don’t know why, but it just seems so strange how I used to like ornaments, colours and complexity of things and then now, I settle for simple and minimalistic. Maybe it’s a realization of how things are already complex in this world and to seek a sense of simplicity and purity becomes so rare. Maybe also, I’ve gotten sick of so many colours that I see around me, matched incongruously and inconsistently that sometimes I pity the dweller of that space who gets drowned by these colours. It can get too overwhelming at times that a less painful experience for the eyes is required. And in my context, simple does it. Ok! That will be it for my first entry. When more things pour in, I’ll have things to write! In the meantime, cheers to all and have a great holiday!
